Red Ladder Theatre connects inmates with their creativity

My latest piece for Theatre Bay Area focuses on San Jose’s Red Ladder Theatre Company. They were a branch of San Jose Repertory Theatre until the Rep closed its doors in 2014. For the past five years, they have been an independent theatre artist collective that does a lot of their amazing work in California prisons. I spoke with program director Karen Altree Piemme, instructor Tasi Alabastro and an inmate who felt the program changed his life and thought process.

Learn more about the company, their history and their goals moving forward. Read the piece here.
